Deacon Jeff and Tom Dorian are Cursillistas and I get the blessing of small grouping with these to dynamic men of faith, in the Catholic Diocese of Memphis.
On the second segment, in the discussion the term “enthusiasm” is mentioned as being a key term used in the movement. Deacon Jeff shares his personal testimonial about his relation with his family, and the need to be “enthusiastic” with them.

“Joy” being a second term shared during this episode of Catholic Cafe, Fr. Bruce Nieli shares his favorite saint, St. Francis of Assisi.

Recently YouTube changed up the visuals and functions for customization on their channels. I was happy to see the simple editing applications the home channel for the user. A few clicks and uploads, your customization of your YouTube channel can have a more appealing look and usability.

You have control of the layout, making how you reach your potential online audience a little easier as to how you visualize setting up your channel. The added ability to place customized links on the sidebar, below your “About” statement, is going to a sure hit for those seeking ways to attract online viewers to personal and business websites.

These easy way of adding/editing your avatar and customized background is a very nice feature for YouTube channels. While you could change your background in the old YouTube setup, the new channel editing is just simpler and easy to find. I found the Mashable article HOW TO: Create Custom Backgrounds for Twitter, YouTube, & MySpace to be useful.

Coming from an SEO/ Search Engine Optimization point of view: If you take the time to name (title) your uploaded videos with keywords and phrases, associated with relative content to your blog or website, and create a definition and tag list with relative keywords and phrases for each of your videos, I believe you will find a new Social Media Strategy of sharing your YouTube channel to be an efficient way of gaining rankings in search engines.

I have always been active on YouTube, sharing my faith and religion. I started years ago with uploading my songs pertaining to the Respect Life movement. Th video on the sidebar you see was one of my first and most viewed.

YouTube can be a small part of your ministries way of implementing “The New Evangelization.” Sharing videos of keynote speakers from your past events and study groups is a great way to be active in evangelization. Be creative and unique in developing your videos and channels, and the experience for your and your online audience can be a blessing.

I am starting to customize my clients channels. You can check out Locked-in Golf’s YouTube channel, that I set up: http://www.youtube.com/lockedingolf

You will see the custom background, the custom avatar and the custom links on the sidebar with keyword phrases as the click-through titles.

YouTube also updated their video manager. This customization by YouTube makes content management for channels much more simple and just an overall better user experience for those just now creating their channels. If you are just now getting started with YouTube, or if you want to know about the new customization and channel edit features, take a look at the videos below.

Barcamp in Memphis (#BCMEM)

This is the eve of Barcamp Memphis. I am following the hashtag #bcmem and hoping to see a taste of what is going to be shared at this community gathering of tech and web geeks.

My fist experience of a barcamp, was last years Barcamp Memphis. The energy of everyone sharing was truly a noticeable action at each small group, that I attended. The topics ranged wide, but I was most excited to see other web geeks like me interested in streaming video.

This Year I hope to learn more about the mobile applications of both Android and Apple phones and tablets. The online sources I follow, ReelSEO and Mashable, continually share articles on the rise of mobile streaming video, both as a user seeking their topics of interest and the publisher seeking to expose their content,… with great hopes of their content becoming viral.

I have been active for years streaming live content online, and in the near future I plan to take full advantage of all the free-outsource available from social media sites like Ustream, JustinTV, and LivdeStream. My spiritual adviser just showed me that some Catholic Media Companies are offering free hosting of HD video for parishes, dioceses, and organizations looking for ways to reach-out to their local market, as well as reach out to the wide-open digital-sea.

There is going to be a group at the barcamp, sharing on some great topics. The name of the group is Lokion, which is local here to the Greater Memphis/ Mid-south area. Check out this quick list, and if your interested go check out their website.

Smart / Responsive Mobile Design

Mobile Audience Research: Sometimes You’ve Just Gotta Be There

Mobile Usability Testing: Hands-on Demo Session

ThinkFactory: Gamestorming to Break Through Design Challenges

www.Lokion.com

I will try to Tweet, post to Facebook Linkedin and Google+, as much as I can. I hope to share good insights and resources will all my blog followers and social media friends. The growing actions of sharing piety and study is becoming more and more of a vision for parishes, diocese, and organization. The New Evangelization a positive movement of suitable instruments and ideas, that will help us and our brothers and sisters, in our journey of faith, hope and charity.

If you don’t really know what a BARCAMP is, just go search for it and place the closest major city in the search with it. Go SEE, what is going on in your local community of techs and geeks.

Peace, out…

Create Yours Today

Google Plus has opened a door, and now your parish or parish organization can create a page on Google Plus and mark their spot in the newest social media digital realm. Already I have seen some of the Google Plus Catholic Geeks, I hang with, creating pages for their parish and organizations.

– Click Here to Start Creating Your Page Today –

If you are unfamiliar with Google Plus, it is a lot like Facebook, but to me has much more functionality and user-friendly sharing. Google only allowed a few businesses to create pages during its beta stage, but now offers you an opportunity to start sharing and growing in the online community of Google Plus.

The question arose among my circle of Catholic Geeks on Google, which choice of Google Plus Pages is correct for the parish to identify itself with?…

Local Business and Place … or … Company/ Institution/ Organization?

If your parish and or organization(s) are looking for the maximum exposure, I would have to layout a strategy of using both outlets on Google Plus, “Local Business and Place” and “Company/ Institution/ Organization.”

I would select the “Local Business and Place” option for the Parish. Your parish might even be already listed in this section via an earlier date where a parish official or active parishioner has taken the opportunity to do so. If not, then now is the time. Give as much information as possible. Make sure you review the page your create or the page already in Google Places.

On the Google Plus — profile page — you have the same options of supplying information as a regular profile. Take a look at mine, and if you are asked to join Google Plus to view, please consider joining in on the digital-side of sharing Christ. My Profile – click here

Now I would suggest that each parish organization use the opportunity of free social media outlets to share their ministry and missions, by selecting the “Company/ Institution/ Organization” and doing the same, make sure to give as much information about the organization as possible so the online viewers get a better understanding of your ministry and mission.

WELL NOW … What do you do with these new pages on Google Plus?

Every parish and parish organization should try to post information … consistently on their wall/ feed, any news and updates that will remind a parishioner or “random online viewer” to actively participate in the events and venues you are wanting them to attend … or … make them take note to what the parish or parish organizations have to share about EXCITING-NEW-NEWS of the wondrous grace and gifts the Lord shares.

If your parish or parish organization has an annual or any reoccuring event, then you should consider creating a page for that event(s). Just select the option “Arts/ Entertainment/ Sports” and follow the same route. Supply the online viewing audience with as much information about the event, so they will be enticed to spread the word and possible even share your pages on their social media outlets.

Be a part of the New Evangelization and use the free resources available to share the “Good News” and lead all of our brothers and sisters of Christ to the ever-loving Sacraments of the Church.

If you need assistance, you can call on me. Or,… I bet there is a young web geek hanging out in your parish or diocese that would love to help you on your digital journey of faith.

Something to ponder, something to pray.

I have gone over the article a few times, and overall I think it is a system a man can understand and handle. The only part that concerns me is the reference to confession.

First plainly, placing a “monthly” due-date for attending frightens me. We know that “we” sin often, as men. I think there could be a short sentence of action, that would show the necessity for reacting to the inner thoughts of self-awareness that occur at the point of “doing to the sin” or just after. We need to teach men that when they are in a state of sin, they need learn to run to a priest for the “Sacrament of Reconciliation.”

Reconciliation is my next point concern of sharing.

So often we see/ hear religious and educated laity share that “confession” should not be viewed in a way where the person is painting a picture of them being a “bad person.” Looking at “confession” as a though going before a court or a judge, awaiting the inevitable down pour prayers for Penance. The religious or educated laity share that the person should see the “confession” as more of a moment where you re-unite with a loved one, a “party”, much like the prodigal son and his father.

“Confession” is an action within/ a part of the sacrament, but it is not the name of the sacrament. In my point of view, more often we should refer to the action as “Reconciliation” and not “confession.” Confession does not paint the picture of being reunited and is a little on the negative-side, from a person’s point of view when sharing. Reconciliation does paint a picture of being reunited.

Reconciliation paints a positive picture, and its is a word of encouragement, leading one to hope. Hope, we know as part of that lovely trinity of words; Faith – Hope – Charity. And when you think about it,… The Sacrament of Reconciliation offers all three!

I guess it is the marketing-side of me, always looking for a more positive approach of branding. I would choose Reconciliation – at least once a month over confession – monthly, just as he stated for Eucharistic Adoration.

Just something to ponder, and something to pray.

Stay Holy,

Both Mary and St. Paul gave themselves entirely to Christ in their natures.

Jeff Geerling: Social Media Breakout

“We’re not building personal relationships. That’s why people aren’t coming to Mass…<s>#</s>cnmc11 we need to show them that they wan Chris.”

“Dont throw Christ at people. Engage! <s>#</s>cnmc11 Each out to others in love!”

“Switch from “broadcasting a message” to “engaging an audience”.”

“Keep message clear and simple.”

“You are your organization’s filter. Respect your audience’s attn.”

“With limited budgets we have to make do.”

“Make incremental, measurable changes in communication strategy.”

“I’ve never used Twitter this much! <s>#</s>cnmc11.”

“Silence in your own life helps filter out noise in our communication to others.”

“Dont use acronyms because we need to speak what others speak and understand. No “RCIA” “CCD” etc.”

“Spreading the word of God simply requires prayer, self-knowledge, and ability to relate.”

“People are hungry for Christ even if they don’t know it and He wants to feed them! Be Christ to others in your content.”

Pat is really sharing deep insight and concepts as to what, why and when on the topic of Theology of Communications. Gohn’s way of sharing is great, based on the Trinity.

She started with sharing – “But St. John goes even further when he affirms that “God is love”: God’s very being is love.
Catholic New Media Conference

CNMC 2011, the first day displayed via a slide show from Flicker! Great shots shared by those attending this Catholic Media Conference, in Kansas City, Kansas. As your viewing these pictures, do your notice anyone SMILING! I am glad to see the photos, and the dedicated attendees of CNMC, in lively spirits!

I noticed on slide from the pics was on the topic of QR codes. I am always interest in QR codes. There is a local startup in my area you should check out,… stiQRd.com

Also you will notice in the picture slide show, Matthew Warner sharing on Social Networking. flockNote, if your interested in checking out his work online. flockNote is a social media outlet for Churches wanting the capability of reaching their audience, with a variety of ways, since everyone is different on how the are use to communicating. Slip in and check it out, it might be for you, your parish, or diocese.

Lisa Hendey is in the vast rotation of New Evangelization being kindled. By the photo, she is sharing on optimizing social media for your parish. That is a prime topic for me, as SEOtechbench, with Social Media Strategy and Search Engine Optimization blended for capturing your online audience. I hope to see Lisa blog on her personal site, LisaHendey.com or on CatholicMom.com.

With all the action going on Google+ about “The New Evangelization” and “Theology of Communications“ I hope the conversation going on will set new ideas and concepts on the table for discussion.

Lisa Hendey is also part of the Catholic Weekend crew of SQPN. Wondering if they will be doing their broadcast live, from Kansas City, at the CNMC 2011, Catholic Media Conference.

The two priest I recognize are Fr. Roderick and iPadre – Fr. Jay Finelli. Father Roderick and iPadre are part of/ from SQPN, with Fr. Roderick be the founder of SQPN (Star Quest Production Network). I hope to see a few podcast come out, from the both of them, on topics shared at the Catholic Media event.

If you are a Twitter Tweeter Fan, then you can follow the hashtag for the event — #cnmc11

If you are a Facebook User Fan, then you can sure find the – SQPN Fan Page

Brandon Vogt was in many photos, but I did not see any referenceing him giving any kind of talk or session. I do hope to see a little action from him this weekend. I did see in the photo-stream, a table set up with his book, “The Church and New Media.”

That is all for now. I will be hanging out all day Saturday (Working on a new project, Mobile Staging Rental?… LOL Brings in the Bacon!) and be watching any action sprouting out from Kansas, from the CNMC 2011.

Big blessings and many thanks for the Flicker team!

Today, on September 30, 2011 a few of my new friends of Google+ are gathering in Kansas City, Kansas for a Catholic Media Conference, CNMC 2011 sponsored by SQPN (Catholic New Media Conference CNMC, Star Quest Production Network SQPN). I hope they have the time of their lives!

SQPN.com is a very active online group of people, sharing a wide range of media. Please take the time and visit them at their official website: http://sqpn.com/

CNMC has their own page on the SQPN website: http://cnmc.sqpn.com/

I actually found my way into the SQPN crowd a few years back, via the PodcastAnswerMan Cliff Ravenscraft owner/ operator of the GSPN Network. If you looking to start a podcast or want to dive deeper into the podcast ministry, stop by and check Cliff out. I promise every minute you spend either watching his live streaming show or just digging through his large database of podcast you will enjoy the entertaining education he provides.

I did make it to the CATHOLICON 2011, where I met Brandon Vogt, author of “The Church and New Media”, Scott Maentz “World Famous and Renowned Motorcycle LED Light Installer”, and Christina King National Catholic Keynote Speaker. They are a few of the Google+ Catholic Geeks, and will be present at CNMC this year.

A few other Google+ Catholic Geeks, that will be attending the Catholic New Media Conference in Kansas City; Lisa Hendey of Catholic Mom, Ashley Collins Social Communications Coordinator for the Office for Mission Education and Animation for the Archdiocese of Chicago (MAN WHAT A TITLE!!!), Marc Cardaronella Director of Religious Education with Ten Years of being a Naval Aviator on his belt, and Craig Berry Web Developer and Musician.

I know there is a lot to take in at this conference, but I hope to see a few updates via Google+, Twitter, Facebook, and Flicker. Craig Berry announced on Google+ he had created a Flicker account, just for the occasion of CNMC 2011. (http://www.flickr.com/groups/cnmc11/)

I will blog each night and hope to share a little about what is going on, and maybe even what SQPN has planned for the future!
