Catholic Missionary Opportunities, FOCUS ministry came to town! I was happy to see to many present at the lunch provided by a local law firm, which two of their attorneys are active in ministries throughout the greater Memphis Mid-south area and abroad. Present at the meeting, there were a wide range of Fishes of Men, laity, and diocesan priest.
The meeting was setup for multiple reasons!
One, the Fishers of Men Prayer Group of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis, is in constant search for new ideas and concepts to create a more active presence in our parishes. Taking the framework of what FOCUS ministry has already developed and in place might be a solution or guide for the future development missionary work of the group.
The excitement in the eyes of the audience was revealing to us that FOCUS could very well be an answer to our prayers. While the meeting covered many functions and structure of the Catholic FOCUS life, I think when it was explained that a course of 5 weeks training is part of their layout, the Fishers of Men could handle an intense training of sorts.
On a second note, Catholic Missionary Opportunities for our local universities and colleges could be insight. Focus ministry might have a place here in the Catholic Diocese of Memphis, working with our local Newman Center. The Catholic Campus Ministry here, serving the West Tennessee area (and I think maybe parts of Northern Mississippi and Eastern Arkansas) could use support from such an organization as Focus. Catholic students from our diocese often fall away form practicing their faith and that is where the Catholic Campus Ministry steps in.
Our entire community of parishes and organizations should reach out and support our Young Adults.
It was mentioned that an active and supportive community is needed to bring in Catholic organizations like FOCUS. The students, as well as the parents, should strive to show that “We” as a community of faith desire FOCUS to consider Memphis, TN. Active Participation and Continual Financial Support would be needed!
I was glad to here that FOCUS has a plan where the cost is displaced between the diocese and FOCUS,… but even more surprising and a relief! The FOCUS missionaries raise a large portion of the funds needed, themselves. Catholic lay missionary opportunities are thriving and our community needs to benefit from the growing movement abroad.
Thirdly, talk was stirring of multiple locations with our diocese, both the Memphis deanery and the Jackson deanery, that might be possible sites for FOCUS to focus on, in-conjunction with our local Catholic Campus Ministry.
This take lay ministry help to start-up, form and produce! Are you being called?
JUST, something to ponder, and something to pray.
In Christ, always…
