YouTube and My Religion

Customization of YouTube Channels

Recently YouTube changed up the visuals and functions for customization on their channels. I was happy to see the simple editing applications the home channel for the user. A few clicks and uploads, your customization of your YouTube channel can have a more appealing look and usability.

You have control of the layout, making how you reach your potential online audience a little easier as to how you visualize setting up your channel. The added ability to place customized links on the sidebar, below your “About” statement, is going to a sure hit for those seeking ways to attract online viewers to personal and business websites.

These easy way of adding/editing your avatar and customized background is a very nice feature for YouTube channels. While you could change your background in the old YouTube setup, the new channel editing is just simpler and easy to find. I found the Mashable article HOW TO: Create Custom Backgrounds for Twitter, YouTube, & MySpace to be useful.

Coming from an SEO/ Search Engine Optimization point of view:  If you take the time to name (title) your uploaded videos with keywords and phrases, associated with relative content to your blog or website, and create a definition and tag list with relative keywords and phrases for each of your videos, I believe you will find a new Social Media Strategy of sharing your YouTube channel to be an efficient way of gaining rankings in search engines.

I have always been active on YouTube, sharing my faith and religion. I started years ago with uploading my songs pertaining to the Respect Life movement. Th video on the sidebar you see was one of my first and most viewed.

YouTube can be a small part of your ministries way of implementing “The New Evangelization.” Sharing videos of keynote speakers from your past events and study groups is a great way to be active in evangelization. Be creative and unique in developing your videos and channels, and the experience for your and your online audience can be a blessing.

I am starting to customize my clients channels. You can check out Locked-in Golf’s YouTube channel, that I set up: http://www.youtube.com/lockedingolf

You will see the custom background, the custom avatar and the custom links on the sidebar with keyword phrases as the click-through titles.

YouTube also updated their video manager. This customization by YouTube makes content management for channels much more simple and just an overall better user experience for those just now creating their channels. If you are just now getting started with YouTube, or if you want to know about the new customization and channel edit features, take a look at the videos below.
