“The Church and New Media” book … This is going to be great,… The content is from some very active Catholic’s, who use the Internet regularly, if not daily, for spreading their ministry work. I think it is great they have stepped forward and produced this book of encouragement.
The speed of Online Technology developing has gone from years to months to weeks, and now… even daily — with change of ”how-to” and “where-at” a common start to all questions related to web development. Now with Social Media sites like Facebook and Twitter, virtually effecting everyone’s lives… Yes even those who claim they have nothing to do with them, and will never use them, are still effected because the Digital Technology is physically part of their surroundings, – environment.

I found this book via a Google+ post, from Michael Franzwa which was sharing a post from Carson Weber, who basically wrote a short viewpoint of the upcoming release of “The Church and New Media.”

While I really can’t say much now, I do hope to share a lot more information on this publication, very soon. There are a number of the individuals that gave their knowledge, ideas, concerns and concepts to this project. If your check out Carson Weber’s review he has them listed, and I encourage again to read his short review.
My experience online was really started with my friendship through a few other Catholics, who I found via the web.
Karl Kohlhase was my first contect. He was my inspiration for booking Catholic artist at local venues and events with the Diocese of Memphis. I went online, typed in “Catholic Music” for a search and up he popped at #1. He lived far away up North at the time but I sent an email and we began our friendship via the Internet. Karl surprised me, when he revealed to me he was moving to the Memphis area, for a job. Karl’s short time in Memphis was a blessing to me, and many others in the Catholic Diocese of Memphis.
The second stage of my online beginning was with a group of individuals, I came across new website at the time, Catholic Jukebox, The Grapevine, Sacred Heart Radio, and the Catholic Music Express. The people running these websites were really dedicated to what they trying to do, still today.
The Catholic Jukebox is a great source for listening to online Catholic music. The music is 24/7 via Live365 streaming. George Leite is the man behind the scenes keeping this great inspiring ministry going on. The wide range of musicians on the Catholic Jukebox allows everyone to enjoy what George has developed.
The Grapvine, an online Catholic magazine that was started by Susan Bailey. I really enjoyed how she shaped her content online, and how she quickly moved with the new media technology that was all of a sudden appearing. Seems now she is out and about as a recording artist and Catholic speaker. Her Grapevine ministry was combined with the Catholic Music Express.
The Catholic Music Express was created by Jim O’Meara. The Church is lucky to have such a dedicated worker, as Jim. O’Meara shares his talent by way of podasting. He also has a wide variety of music that he shares with online audiences. Jim’s podcast are still going today and I hope everyone gets a chance to take a ride the Catholic Music Express.
Sacred Heart Radio was developed by Gary Gersin, who has had a great many of trials, ups and downs, as to what his ministry would be, for the Church. New Media technology changed and Gary would change right with it. While the original Sacred Heart Radio he created is no longer in action, Gersin’s online presences is still going strong with his new project, Ignite His Spirit. (You will see his old domain for Sacred Heart Radio is pointed to his new online website.)
I checked out the new site Gary has now, and saw some of my graphics for Fr. Larry Richards, when he came to MMOS, a annual event put on by the Fishers of Men, in the Catholic Diocese of Memphis.
Wow, I can’t believe how far along things have gone since those old days of social media. I must take some time and get back with those friends, and see how they are doing.
