Don't Fall Behind ... Create Yours Today

Google Plus has opened a door, and now your parish or parish organization can create a page on Google Plus and mark their spot in the newest social media digital realm. Already I have seen some of the Google Plus Catholic Geeks, I hang with, creating pages for their parish and organizations.

If you are unfamiliar with Google Plus, it is a lot like Facebook, but to me has much more functionality and user-friendly sharing. Google only allowed a few businesses to create pages during its beta stage, but now offers you an opportunity to start sharing and growing in the online community of Google Plus.

The question arose among my circle of Catholic Geeks on Google, which choice of Google Plus Pages is correct for the parish to identify itself with?…

Local Business and Place … or … Company/ Institution/ Organization?

If your parish and or organization(s) are looking for the maximum exposure, I would have to layout a strategy of using both outlets on Google Plus, “Local Business and Place” and “Company/ Institution/ Organization.”

I would select the “Local Business and Place” option for the Parish. Your parish might even be already listed in this section via an earlier date where a parish official or active parishioner has taken the opportunity to do so. If not, then now is the time. Give as much information as possible. Make sure you review the page your create or the page already in Google Places.

On the Google Plus — profile page — you have the same options of supplying information as a regular profile. Take a look at mine, and if you are asked to join Google Plus to view, please consider joining in on the digital-side of sharing Christ. My Profile – click here

Now I would suggest that each parish organization use the opportunity of free social media outlets to share their ministry and missions, by selecting the “Company/ Institution/ Organization” and doing the same, make sure to give as much information about the organization as possible so the online viewers get a better understanding of your ministry and mission.

WELL NOW … What do you do with these new pages on Google Plus?

Every parish and parish organization should try to post information … consistently on their wall/ feed, any news and updates that will remind a parishioner or “random online viewer” to actively participate in the events and venues you are wanting them to attend … or … make them take note to what the parish or parish organizations have to share about EXCITING-NEW-NEWS of the wondrous grace and gifts the Lord shares.

If your parish or parish organization has an annual or any reoccuring event, then you should consider creating a page for that event(s). Just select the option “Arts/ Entertainment/ Sports” and follow the same route. Supply the online viewing audience with as much information about the event, so they will be enticed to spread the word and possible even share your pages on their social media outlets.

Be a part of the New Evangelization and use the free resources available to share the “Good News” and lead all of our brothers and sisters of Christ to the ever-loving Sacraments of the Church.

If you need assistance, you can call on me.  Or,… I bet there is a young web geek hanging out in your parish or diocese that would love to help you on your digital journey of faith.

Something to ponder, something to pray.

Stay Holy,
